A clearer answer.
A simpler next step.
Small tools for everyday decisions around your home and property. Start with the numbers you have.
Estimate an appliance’s running cost
Use your appliance’s power rating, how long it runs, and the price on your electricity bill.
Formula: watts ÷ 1,000 × hours per day × days × price per kWh. Assumes constant power while running. Cycling appliances need measured average consumption. Standing charges and tariffs that vary by time are excluded.
Put recurring costs in perspective
Convert a weekly, monthly or yearly payment into an annual estimate and monthly equivalent. Use the same currency when comparing payments.
Monthly payments × 12, or weekly payments × 52, give an annual estimate. Monthly equivalent = annual estimate ÷ 12. Assumes unchanged prices; excludes discounts, usage fees and cancellation charges.
